Trnovo

Trnovo is a village on the heights of Sarajevo who has been cut in two by the ˝border˝ line between Republika Srpska and the Bošnjak-Croat Federation, the two entities resulting of the Dayton agreements which ended the last war. As a result, it has two municipal councils, two city halls, two everything for a population of about max. 3000. Of course both municipalities cover a larger territory. Trnovo-Federation includes Bjelašnica ski station and as a result it has the highest per capita budget of all of BiH.

Trnovo est un village des hauteurs de Sarajevo divisé par une ligne invisible qui sépare les deux entités, la Republika Srpska et la Fédération Bosno-Croate issues des accords de Dayton qui ont mis fin à la guerre. Le résultat est que Trnovo a deux conseils municipaux, deux mairies, deux tout pour une population de environ 3000. Le territoire de chaque municipalité comprend des montagnes en plus du village. La municipalité de Trnovo-Fédération inclut la station de ski de Bjelašnica et est de ce fait la municipalité la plus riche de BiH par rapport au nombre d'habitants.

Jagnjetina - Roasted lamb - Agneau à la broche

On every slope of every mountain of Bosnia and Herzegovina you will see sheep grazing. From them we get fresh sheep cheese (think feta style), the best being from Travnik, woolen socks, carpets and meat!
Roasted lamb is at its best in spring time when lambs are still young and tender. We like to have it at the restaurant ˝Plava Voda˝ in Jablanica where it is slowly roasted. You get to choose the part you want to eat and some cooked potatoes to go with it.
In Sarajevo, the best roasted lamb can be found at the restaurant ˝Kod Kibe˝ (Vrbanusa 164 Tel: 033/ 441 936). You need to call ahead to have them prepare it for you.

Il serait impossible de décrire le paysage de Bosnie et Herzégovine sans y inclure les moutons qui sont partout. Ils fournissent le lait pour le fromage, un cousin de la féta, le meilleur étant de Travnik, la laine pour les chaussettes, les tapis et bien sur la viande! L'agneau à la broche est le meilleur au printemps quand les agneaux sont encore jeunes et tendres. Nous aimons le manger a Jablanica au restaurant ˝Plava Voda˝. Vous pouvez préciser le morceau que vous préférez et le déguster avec des pommes de terre cuites sous les cendres.
A Sarajevo, le meillleur agneau à la broche est au restaurant ˝Kod Kibe˝(Vrbanusa 164 Tel: 033/ 441 936) . Il faut le demander quand vous réservez pour qu'ils vous le préparent.

Jablanica

Jablanica is a small town on the Neretva river on the road from Sarajevo to Mostar. It is known mainly for a historical battle of WWII when the partisans led by Tito blew up the railway bridge and for its roasted lamb.

Jablanica est une petite ville sur le fleuve Neretva, le long de la route Sarajevo-Mostar. Elle est surtout connue pour une bataille héroique de la seconde guerre mondiale durant laquelle les partisans de Tito ont fait sauter le pont ferroviaire mais aussi pour son agneau grillé!

The transparent waters of Vrelo Bosna and the colors of spring are a delight for the eyes. In the cute wooden restaurant you can even have a trout fresh out of the water. One advice however, try to avoid going on the week-end or worse on 1rst of may when all Sarajevo seems to gather there for barbecue!

Les eaux transparentes de Vrelo Bosna et les couleurs printanières de la végétation sont un baume les yeux. Dans le joli restaurant en bois, vous pourrez essayer les truites tout juste sorties de l'eau. Un conseil toutefois, évitez les week-ends ou le 1er mai où toute la ville de Sarajevo semble s'y donner rendez-vous pour un barbecue géant!

Ilidža - Alleys to Vrelo Bosna - Allées vers Vrelo Bosna

To reach Vrelo Bosna , the springs of the river Bosna (from which Bosnia derives its name) you can drive there directly or take a more leisurely approach and choose to walk or take a carriage on the alleys bordered by majestic trees and preserved nature. These springs provide drinking water for Sarajevo and beyond therefore the water authorities try to keep pollution away.

Pour arriverà Vrelo Bosna, les sources de la rivière Bosna, dont la Bosnie tire son nom, vous pourrez vous y rendre en voiture directement ou prendre un chemin plus agréable à pied ou en fiacre le long des allées bordées d'arbres majesteux et admirer de chaque côté la nature préservée. Ces sources fournissent la ville de Sarajevo en eau potable, les authorités locales tentent donc d'en protéger les abords de la pollution.

Vladimir ˝Valter˝ Perić

Not far from Skenderija, near the river, in front of the Raiffeisen Bank, one can notice a small garden tended lovingly by a city gardener. There stood the bust of Vladimir ˝Valter˝ Perić. Valter is a hero of the resistance during WWII. Born in 1919 in present-day Serbia he worked in Sarajevo where he joined the Communist Party and then fought with the Partisans with the Zenica brigade and the the 6th Eastern Bosnian brigade . He came back to Sarajevo in 1943 and went underground to lead sabotage operations. He was killed by a mortar grenade on the day of Sarajevo's liberation on April 6 1945. A tragic ending fit for a real hero.

In the film Valter brani Sarajevo (Valter saves Sarajevo), the German General - the Germans are trying to find Valter in Sarajevo - looking down to Sarajevo from the top of one of the hills, famously says: "Sehen Sie diese Stadt? Das ist Walter" (Do you see this city? It is Valter).

Pas loin de Skenderija, au bord de la rivière, en face de la banque Raiffeisen on peut voir un square entrenu amoureusement par les jardiniers de la ville avec en son centre le buste de Valdimir ˝Valter˝ Perić héros de la résistance pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale. Né en 1919 dans l'actuelle Serbie, il travaille à Sarajevo d'où il adhère au parti communiste avant de se méler à l'action combattante en rejoignant les partisans dans la région de Zénica puis en commandant la 6ème brigade de Bosnie orientale. En 1943, de retour à Sarajevo pour mener des opérations clandestines de sabotage, il meurt le 6 avril 1945, jour de la libération de Sarajevo. Une fin tragique digne d'un vrai héros.

Flu epidemic - Epidémie de grippe

Yes, this beautiful virus has hit our family. Classes in school were half empty. The changing weather once day with bright sun and 24 °C and the next rain and 4°C has been though an our immune system just gave in.
The Bosnian daily newspaper Dnevni Avaz advised on the 22nd of April that if only we ate carrots, meat, yogurt, tea and mushrooms, we'd be always healthy. How lucky these are the basis of Bosnian diet!

Ce joli virus a attaqué notre famille. A l'école les classes étaient à moitié vides. Les changements brusques de température alternant de 24°C à 4°C d'un jour à l'autre ont eu raison de notre systeme immunitaire. Alors à plus! Le quotidien Bosnien Dnevi Avaz conseillait le 22 avril de manger 5 aliments (carottes, viande, yaourt, thé et champignons) pour rester en bonne santé. Par chance ces aliments sont la base du régime alimentaire bosnien!

Kids playing in the street - Enfants jouant dans la rue

Kids playing in the street without adult supervision is a common sight in Sarajevo. Hopefully it will stay like this for a long time before kids start loosing this safety feeling.
Voir des enfants jouer seuls dans les rues de Sarajevo est assez commun. Espérons que les enfants garderont longtemps ce sentiment de sécurité.

Spring blossom - Floraison printanière

It is at springtime that one realises how many fruit trees there are in Sarajevo. All this beatutiful flowers are everywhere.

C'est au printemps que l'on réalise combien il y a d'arbres fruitiers à Sarajevo. Les arbres semblent tous être couverts de fleurs.
